NBO HACKATHON

INNOVATE TO DOMINATE OMAN'S BIGGEST HACKATHON!

Do you have the urge to create? Think you have the best idea for the next best thing? Then, listen up.

NBO's Hackathon 2019 is an innovation hub for application developers to present a big technological idea that will shape the way we see the world.

Over 200 participants from universities, organizations and international startup firms will gather to innovate and produce applications under pre-identified themes.

We invite passionate application developers to create innovative software, apps, or other innovative technology using any platform, framework, language, or hardware device you desire and configure it to make something better, over a 24-hour period.

You can start from scratch or modify a technology that was previously created in order to change/improve its functionality or purpose.

The event seeks to celebrate the spirit of innovation and promote young and talented minds.

The finalists will win exciting prizes including internships and potential employment opportunities with NBO and its technological partners.

Admissions to the Hackathon event will be based on prior registrations. You may register as a team or individual participant.

Judging Criteria

NBO Hackathon will be segregated into two parts:

The Students Challenge:
Eligible for students aged less than 25 years that are currently pursuing academic degrees in Oman.
The Professionals Challenge:
Eligible for IT professional and start-up firms.

Ideas for the Students & Professionals Challenge categories will be evaluated based on the follwing:

Prototype readiness

Rules

Teams can build prototypes from scratch (e.g. Mobile Applications / Consumer Web Applications / Business Web Applications…etc.).
All participants will have an opportunity to pitch their ideas to a panel of judges, however, only five short-listed ideas will be presented at the Grand Finale.
Only registered team members will be permitted to participate in the development of the prototype.
Prototypes must be developed within the specified time-frame, no additional time will be provided.

1. What is a Hackathon?

Hackathons have long been staple events in the Technology Industry since the late 1990s. A Hackathon is an event that brings together computer programmers like software developers, graphic designers and user interface specialists along with industry experts and professionals to identify issues and create software solutions, over a 24hr period.

2. What's the end product?

A simple working prototype of a new and innovative idea that is related to the banking and financial services industry.

3. Who should attend?

Anyone! Whether you are in high school, college, or a working professional, if you are passionate about programming and are interested in building new technologies - we want you to participate!

4. When does registration close?

November 3rd, 2019

5. What do I bring?

This is a very hands-on event. Bring your laptops, mobile phones, Kinects, and any other gadgets you would require to develop your idea, but above all, your energy and your brain power!

6. But I don't have an idea, what should I do?

Don't worry! We will walk you through how to generate great ideas at the beginning of the NBO Hackathon.
